Latin Music Legend Juan Luis Guerra will serve as Musical Director & Album Producer, Special Guests to be announced in the coming weeks

The Highly-Anticipated Recording will take place in February 2012 at the New World Center in Miami Beach, Florida

MIAMI, Dec. 6, 2011 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Tr3s: MTV, Musica y Mas, the bilingual/bicultural entertainment destination for Latinos in the US, announced today that it’s set to welcome Colombian Superstar Juanes to the legendary MTV Unplugged stage. Heralded as a “soulful poet” (New York Times) and “one of the most influential artists of the decade” (NPR) for his ability to fuse traditional Latin rhythms with rock muscle and pop craftsmanship, Juanes will bring a further twist to his biggest hits and specially composed new songs by collaborating with Latin Music’s creative “maestro” Juan Luis Guerra – whom Juanes has personally asked to act as the project’s music director and album producer. With the support of the City of Miami Beach Visitor and Convention Authority, the Juanes MTV Unplugged special and album is set to record at the Frank Gehry designed New World Center in Miami Beach in February 2012.

“This means everything to me – it’s going back to my core, the basics, the essence and rawness of my music,” says Juanes on his excitement to record in the stripped down acoustic format. Juan Luis Guerra is likewise looking forward to the special event, saying: “Juanes’ vocals and performances are better than ever! The Unplugged stage will be the perfect space to discover the intimacy of his music.”

“Juanes is an amazing artist, advocate and human being…we have thought about working with him on an unplugged for a while now,” said Jose Tillan, GM & EVP of Tr3s: MTV, Musica y Mas. “His repertoire of great songs is as strong as his musicianship, which is the perfect combination for a great show.”

Jose Tillan and Charlie Singer will serve as Executive Producers and Marc Zimet as Executive in Charge of Music Talent for Tr3s: MTV, Musica y Mas. Ivan Dudynsky will serve as Director alongside Production Designer Anton Goss and Lighting Director Tom Kenny.

Westlife’s Last Hit Single, “Lighthouse”

4 Dec

My all-time favorite boyband, Westlife, never made it huge in the USA; but these very talented, world-famous, lads recently announced that they will be parting ways at the end of their 2012 tour.  Here’s their last ever, #1 hit single, “Lighthouse.”  Enjoy!  It’s terrible that we’ve never seen them in concert or have gotten the chance to interview them, after all the support we’ve given them here in the USA.  Oh well!

A Los Angeles Holiday Tradition: Tenth Anniversary Production of “La Virgen De Guadalupe, Dios Inantzin”

4 Dec

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 28, 2011 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — For years now, the Latino Theater Company has presented a holiday gift to the community, its production of “La Virgen De Guadulupe, Dios Inantzin.” Adapted for the stage by company member and playwright Evelina Fernandez from the mid- Sixteenth Century text The Nican Mopohua, it relates the story of how the Virgin Mary appeared on four occasions to the lowly peasant Juan Diego in the mountains of Tepeyac near Mexico City in 1531. Miracles attributed to her intercession included the blooming of roses during a time of frost, and the recovery of Juan’s uncle from the deadly plague. Juan’s devotion to the Virgin was a catalyst for a spiritual renewal in the area. Perhaps two decades after the events occurred, they were recorded on paper in an Aztec language by the Indian scholar Antonio Valeriano.

Ms. Fernandez has transformed the story into a work for the stage whose themes of faith, hope and perseverance can speak to people of all backgrounds.

The show is presented in Spanish with English supertitles.

Reserved seating is available for $35 and can be acquired online at http://www.thelatc.org, or by calling toll-free at (866) 811-4111.

General admission is free to the public (all are welcome to attend) at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, 555 W. Temple St., Los Angeles, CA 90012, on Thursday and Friday, December 8 and 9, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. A goodwill donation of $5 is suggested. No one is turned away for lack of funds. Early arrival is encouraged for best seating and to allow for traffic.

Renowned opera singer Suzanna Guzman stars as the Virgin on December 8, and Esperanza America Ibarra plays the Virgin on December 9. Sal Lopez portrays Juan Diego, in a cast of over 100 actors, singers and dancers that also includes children and seniors from the community.

The production is directed by Latino Theater Company’s Artistic Director, Jose Luis Valenzuela. Original music composed by Alfredo Lopez Mondragon.

You have an alternative when you want a choice besides “A Christmas Carol” or “The Nutcracker” for enjoyable, uplifting holiday entertainment. That alternative is “La Virgen de Guadalupe, Dios Inantzin.”
